DNA welcomes the newest addition to the team, David Finlay. David introduces himself and talks about why he decided to join DNA and the wonderful world of recruitment!
1.What were you doing before DNA?
Before joining the DNA team, I ran my own business - it was an onsite talent consultancy (RPO) advising on talent acquisition to both FinTech and start-up businesses in London & Manchester. My position as a Talent Consultant enabled startups going through hyper growth modes to scale effectively at pace whilst maintaining important aspects of their business-like culture.
Working onsite with clients allowed me to see the real impact my hires made to an organisation and added some new strings to my recruitment arsenal like; organisational design, succession planning and employer branding.
Prior to this, I worked for a couple of leading creative recruitment agencies, recruiting across client services & strategy in London & internationally.
2. Why did you choose to go into recruitment?
I must admit I didn’t have a dying ambition to work in recruitment, like most people in the recruitment industry I fell into it! I enjoy variety and working in a rewarding stimulating environment, from my first interview I could see that being a recruitment consultant is a multi-faceted role, each day is different you’re a networker, problem solver, negotiator, marketer and match maker. Perfect for me!
3. What attracted you to DNA?
DNA have a very strong presence in the creative sector with a great network in the UK / Internationally, which was a huge selling point for me.
Technology is impacting every sector, none more so than service led industries like recruitment. In my opinion technology is an enabler and a positive impact on our industry, when I decided to make the move back into the creative recruitment sector top of my list was working for a business that not only understands this but embraces new technologies and ways of working.
DNA are not stuck in the conventional mould, they are forward thinking from working with the latest technology platforms, embracing new ways of working and promoting a great work life balance.
4. What does your role at DNA involve?
I’ve always enjoyed working in the digital space, I joined DNA to spearhead a number of areas in Client Services, Delivery and Strategy.
My role involves building great partnerships with both existing and new client relationships, providing a great service to our candidates and taking DNA into new markets.
I feel that it is important to get the most out of both existing and new client relationships. I want to build on these and make strong connections that will last for years to come. It is crucial that the partnership with both clients and candidates is solid in order to create the best placements possible.
Previously I’ve be able to do lots of work internationally, so I am looking to bring this additional depth with me to the role. Being with DNA enables me to have the flexibility with location to do this.
5. What do you like doing outside of work?
I like to keep active. I love being outdoors and regularly find myself hiking, paddle boarding climbing or even bouldering! It’s also fair to say I’m a bit obsessed with my music…who produced it? What label is it on? All that jazz…However most importantly spending quality time with wife and baby daughter.
