DNA Recruit are working with a globally recognised commerce marketing agency, partnering with some of the world's leading FMCG brands to drive growth through shopper marketing, retail excellence and omni-channel commerce strategies. They are seeking an experienced Business Unit Director to lead a major FMCG client relationship across multiple African markets, combining strategic leadership, commercial ownership and high-level client partnership.

This is a senior leadership role offering the opportunity to influence regional and global stakeholders, lead integrated commerce programmes, and shape the future direction of a significant international account.

About the Role
As Business Unit Director, you will take ownership of a key FMCG client relationship across Africa, acting as a trusted strategic partner while overseeing commercial performance, business growth and operational delivery.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading and developing senior client relationships across regional and global stakeholder groups.
• Driving integrated omni-commerce strategies spanning shopper marketing, retail excellence and commerce activation.
• Owning annual business planning, account growth strategies and commercial performance.
• Ensuring delivery excellence through insight-led, strategically aligned and commercially effective programmes.
• Managing revenue forecasting, profitability and financial performance in partnership with finance teams.
• Identifying opportunities to expand existing client partnerships and increase account value.
• Leading, coaching and developing multidisciplinary teams across markets and disciplines.
• Championing collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement across the business.

Skills and Experience Required

• Significant experience within FMCG, shopper marketing, retail marketing or commerce-focused environments.
• Previous shopper marketing agency experience is essential.
• Strong experience working with alcohol brands or within regulated FMCG categories would be highly advantageous.
• Proven success managing complex, multi-market client relationships at a senior level.
• Deep understanding of omni-channel commerce, retail media, shopper marketing and brand activation.
• Strong commercial acumen with experience managing revenue, forecasting and profitability.
• Strategic thinker with the ability to translate complexity into clear business plans.
• Excellent stakeholder management, communication and presentation skills.
• Demonstrated leadership experience with a passion for developing high-performing teams.

Location: Based in Johannesburg or Cape Town, SA (Hybrid)
Salary: Up to £100k per annum
