The Business Development Specialist will be responsible for identifying and generating new business opportunities through selling events (live/virtual), media and digital products within Africa. The flagship product, a tech festival which has been running for 25 years, has over 15K attendees virtually and in person and your main responsibilities will include:

  • Prospecting for lead generation and looking for basic growth opportunities within current accounts
  • Grow sales pipeline for own area converting newly identified opportunities
  • Execute retention and new business development plans for a given customer segment
  • Identify and engage with new prospects within the segment to gain understanding of their specific challenges and needs
  • Work closely with customers to ensure ROI and subsequent continuation of business past year one
  • Conducts research, using multiple sources in the market to identify opportunities that fill the pipeline
  • Use insight from lead/prospect conversation to enhance approach
  • Meet with customers face to face, over the phone, virtually or in writing building long standing relationships in the process
  • Identify and map potential customer pain points/needs/challenges and positioning the business's tech products, services, and solutions as a solution to your client
  • Prepare sales forecasts and analysis and present your findings to management through weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly reporting including risks, opportunities, wins and losses
  • Achieve revenue targets, proactively responding to inbound enquiries, and self-generated leads
  • Build a social media presence through social selling to drive referrals and nurture potential customers
  • Keep customer information/records up to date such as interactions, transactions, pipelines, new business account plans and record on their CRM system
  • Proactively develop yourself, keep abreast of the changing business/industry landscape and have a personal development plan

Is this you

As Business Development Specialist you must have proven industry experience within a new business hunting role, including basic knowledge of any events, digital, media, marketing products, solutions, or services as well as experience/track record performing in a new business hunter role in a solution based B2B/B2C environment selling across African tech markets. You also have excellent experience using CRM to manage customer data, and forecast sales opportunities, (Salesforce preferred) and knowledge of the telecoms & tech marketplace and the business models within it is desirable, and experience of sales situations and demonstrable history of sales KPI delivery. You are confident in articulating propositions to customers, patience plus basic presentation skills, face to face, telephone, written and virtual, and managing customer relationships within a range of different customer types and are able to work as a pro-active member of a high energy/high activity/high achieving business development cohort.

You must be able to travel to Africa regularly (TBC).
